Mara North Conservancy Safari Experience
Mara North Conservancy is one of the largest and most pristine community conservancies in the Masai Mara. It offers an authentic safari experience where you can enjoy the iconic savannah landscapes and abundant wildlife—including lions, leopards, cheetahs, and countless plains animals—without the crowds. This area is also a Maasai homeland, and the local community actively manages and protects the conservancy.
Wildlife in Mara North
Mara North is a top destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The conservancy is home to at least three lion prides and is one of the best places in Africa to spot lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Other predators, such as spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals, are commonly seen. Prey species include impala, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, and more, making it a perfect spot for immersive wildlife photography.
Stunning Scenery
As an extension of the Masai Mara, Mara North features classic East African landscapes. Rolling savannah grasslands stretch toward the dramatic Oloololo Escarpment (also called the Siria Escarpment). Tree-lined rivers wind through the conservancy, and on the plains, golden grasses glimmer at sunrise and sunset. Flat-topped acacia trees create breathtaking silhouettes against the horizon, offering endless opportunities for iconic safari photos.
Activities & Experiences
Guided game drives in Mara North are some of the most rewarding in the region, thanks to highly experienced local guides. Self-drive safaris are not permitted, ensuring wildlife and visitor safety. Walking safaris and night game drives provide unique perspectives, while cultural experiences, including visits to local communities, schools, and markets, offer insight into Maasai traditions.
Weather & Climate
Mara North enjoys a temperate climate due to its altitude. Daytime temperatures usually range from the mid-70s to low 80s Fahrenheit (mid-20s Celsius), while evenings can be cool. The area experiences two rainy seasons: short rains in November–December and heavier long rains in March–April, occasionally extending into May.
Best Time to Visit
The dry season, from June to October, is ideal for wildlife viewing. The drier months between January and February also provide excellent safari conditions. Bird watchers should plan visits between November and April, when migratory species arrive and depart.
