Marriage Between a Kenyan and a Kenyan:
- The Registrar of Marriages will conduct the ceremony after issuing a 21-day Notice.
Marriage Between Kenyans by Special License:
- If the marriage is urgent, it can be conducted by the Registrar of Marriages through a special license.
- Marriage Between Kenyan and a Foreigner:
- The following documents must be submitted: valid ID and Passports, an Affidavit for marriage, no impediment to marriage (by the foreign national), and Valid Birth certificates.
Marriage Between Foreigners:
- The following documents need to be submitted: valid IDs and Passports, no impediments to marriage (by both foreign nationals), and Valid Birth certificates.
To be eligible for marriage in Kenya, both parties must be above 18 years of age, consent to the marriage, and the government of Kenya must accept the union between a man and woman.
The requirements for a civil marriage in Kenya include a copy of a National Identity Card or valid Passport, one coloured passport-size photo for each Applicant, a copy of a Death Certificate (if widow or widower), a copy of a Divorce Decree Absolute (if the partner had been married before and is divorced), an affidavit to confirm marital status if the Divorce Decree or the Death Certificate is more than two years old, and copies of Identity Card or Valid Passport for the two witnesses.
